School Committee Meeting - Mar. 6th, 2025

Agenda

1. Call to order the monthly meeting of the Clarksburg School Committee
2. Public Comment/Open Meeting Rules: Clarification of the official legal rules of participation in an open meeting.
3. School Building Update:
   1. Discuss the current condition of the building, updates from the last month, and potential options moving forward in reference to the roof and other school building issues
   2. Review student population numbers and the impact on the percentage of NBSU expenses.
   3. Discuss the current MSBA statement of interest application period and whether or not the school committee and select board would like to vote on moving forward with an application for the school at this time
4. Approval of Minutes: Suggested Motion: Move to approve the minutes from the Clarksburg School Committee Meeting dated February 6, 2025.
5. Financial Statement: Suggested Motion: Move to approve the current financial statement for FY25.
6. Business Administrator’s Report:
   1. Updated information on completing the final edits for the FY24 End of the Year Report, as well as the summer program reconciliation, and the current status of FY25
   2. FY26 budget draft review and discussion
7. Principal’s Report: An update on school related events/activities, student learning, and staffing.
8. Assistant Superintendent’s Report:
   1. NBSU Family/Guardian Engagement Plan: Review the goals of the plan to benefit all students

10. School Committee Business:
    1. New Business:
       1. Contract Negotiations: Review the progress of negotiations with the Clarksburg Teachers Association for a new three-year agreement.
       2. School Improvement Plan: Principal Cote will review the current plan with the school committee for discussion and approval
       3. Grade 8 End of the Year Trip: Advisors will review the plans for this out of state field trip and request a vote to approve by the school committee
       4. Children of Non-Resident Policy: Review the policy, upon advice of legal counsel, that has been in place to prioritize the children of staff members during the school choice process, when those spaces are available
    2. Continuing Business:
       1. Residency Policy: Ongoing discussion about the current residency policy for enrollment at the school and the challenges caused by the high demand with many families seeking to enroll their children at Clarksburg School (with questions surrounding their town of residence, and the school’s ability to verify).  Review any relevant documentation from local districts.
       2. Food Service Review: Continue discussion about cafeteria policies, including the cost associated with “extra” meals and whether to charge for them in 2025-26
11. Executive Session- Per Chapter 30A, Section 21 MGL: Negotiation of the Teachers Contract
12. Next School Committee Meeting: Thursday, April 3, 2025 @ 5 p.m.
